Frequently Asked Questions
How does my child join WMS’s music program? Do they need any prior music experience?
Any student, regardless of experience, can register for a music class elective at WMS during class registration. Students can contact Mr. Sundt (band) or Ms. Gorham (orchestra and choir) for guidance on which ensemble to select if they are unsure which one to select. Each ensemble offers multiple experience levels, so there should be an option for everyone!
Am I responsible for buying or renting an instrument for my child?
WMS and FOWM have a limited selection of instruments to loan to students each year. However, if your family has the ability to rent or purchase an instrument for your student-musician, we encourage you to do so. This enables the WMS and FOWM instruments to be used by those students who would not otherwise have access to an instrument. There are several local music shops where you can rent or purchase. See our list of suggested music shops where you can rent or buy.
What happens if my child’s instrument breaks or needs repairs? Are loaner instruments available?
If your child's instrument is on loan from the WMS Music Department, please have them return it to their music instructor, who can arrange for repair and a loaner. If you rent or own your instrument, families are responsible for repairs and loaners.
